Yalle Media is a free chord and music resource. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how long we keep it, who else sees it, and the choices you have.
In short: you can use every chord sheet and tool without giving us any personal information. We only collect details you choose to send us (a comment, a message, a newsletter sign-up), plus what a website needs to stay secure. We do not sell your information.
Who we are
Yalle Media (yallemedia.com) is run from Nigeria. For anything about your information, email contact@yallemedia.com. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and, for visitors in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the GDPR.
What we collect, and why
When you just browse
- Settings on your device: the key and capo you choose, your recent and saved songs, and similar preferences are kept in your own browser, not on our servers. See the Cookie Policy for the full list.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to see which songs and pages are popular. Once you agree to cookies (by continuing to browse after the cookie notice, or with Accept all; in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland only with Accept all), it uses cookies to recognise return visits. If you choose Necessary only, it sets no cookies and only receives anonymous signals (such as “a page was viewed”) that cannot identify you; Google uses these to estimate overall totals.
- Security: to stop spam and abuse (for example, too many messages from one place), our server briefly records a scrambled code made from your internet address. It is not your actual address, it cannot be reversed, and it is deleted after 2 days.
- Missing pages: when someone visits an address that does not exist, we note the address and the page that linked to it, so we can fix broken links. No information about you is stored.
- Server logs: our host keeps standard technical logs (address, browser type, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting, for a short period.
When you leave a comment
We store your name, email address (never shown publicly), an optional website, your comment, the browser type and the scrambled security code described above. We use these to show your comment, to fight spam, and to contact you about your comment if needed. Comments are checked before they appear. Spam is deleted after 15 days and removed comments after 30 days; published comments stay with the post until you ask us to remove them.
When you contact us or enquire about our services
The contact and Services forms send us your name, email address, optional phone number, artist name and links, and your message, along with the browser type and the scrambled security code. We use them only to reply to you and to handle your request. Messages arrive in our inbox and in our admin area; spam is deleted after 15 days, and genuine enquiries are kept while we are in touch and for our records afterwards, unless you ask us to delete them.
When you subscribe to the newsletter
We store your email address (and name, if given), the page you signed up on, and the dates you subscribed and confirmed. You will get one email asking you to confirm; unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 14 days. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all emails at once.
When you apply for a job
Applications are sent by email to contact@yallemedia.com. We use them only to consider your application and delete them when they are no longer needed.
Who else sees your information
- Hostinger hosts the website and our email.
- Google Analytics (Google) measures visits as described above. Google AdSense (Google) may show ads that keep the site free; if you choose “Necessary only” those ads are not personalised. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- YouTube (Google): song videos, as explained in YouTube videos on this website below.
- Search engines (such as Bing and Yandex) are told when we publish or update a page, so they can show it sooner. Only the page address is sent.
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
YouTube videos on this website (YouTube API Services)
Many song pages show the song's official video. Yalle Media uses YouTube API Services to find that video and show its player. By playing a YouTube video on this website, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to YouTube.
- What we use from YouTube: only public information about videos (the video's ID, title, channel name, upload date and length), through the YouTube Data API. We never ask you to sign in with Google, and we never access your YouTube or Google account or any personal information from YouTube.
- What we store: that public video information, on our own server, to show the player and to describe the video to search engines. We refresh it from YouTube at least every 30 days, and we remove a video from our pages when YouTube no longer offers it. We store nothing about you from YouTube.
- When YouTube is contacted from your device: only when you press play on a video, or start auto-scroll with “Play the song when I scroll” switched on. The player then loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced service (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube may use cookies or collect information as described in Google's Privacy Policy. Until then, nothing from YouTube loads except the video's picture.
- Your choices: do not press play, or switch off “Play the song when I scroll” in Song controls. You can review what Google keeps about you at myaccount.google.com. Questions about our use of YouTube: contact@yallemedia.com.
How long we keep it
Only as long as needed for the reasons above: 2 days for security codes, 14 days for unconfirmed newsletter sign-ups, 15 days for spam and 30 days for removed comments, and until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it for everything else. Settings on your device stay until you clear them.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, to stop using it, or to give you a copy. You can withdraw consent at any time (for analytics, open Cookie settings at the bottom of any page). Email contact@yallemedia.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Keeping it safe
The whole site runs over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Our admin area is protected by passwords and emailed sign-in codes, and only a few trusted people can use it. Personal details are never placed in page addresses, and email addresses are never shown publicly.
Children
Yalle Media is for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date below.
