How to use it

  • Set the tempo with the slider or the −/+ buttons. On a computer, the arrow keys change it by one and the space bar starts and stops.
  • Don't know the tempo? Tap Tap tempo along with the song four or five times and the metronome sets itself.
  • Choose the beats in a bar: 4/4 for most pop, gospel and worship songs, 3/4 for waltzes and many hymns, 6/8 for songs that sway.
  • Practise slowly first. Learn a chord change at a speed you can play cleanly, then raise the tempo a few beats at a time.

Learning a song? Open its chords on Yalle Media: every sheet has auto-scroll, key change and chord diagrams, and the free tuner gets your instrument in tune first.

Questions

What does BPM mean?

Beats per minute: how many clicks you hear in one minute. 60 BPM is one click a second; most pop songs are between 80 and 130 BPM.

What tempo should I practise at?

Start where you can play without mistakes, often 60 to 80 BPM for a new song, then speed up by 5 BPM once it feels easy.

Does the metronome work offline or on my phone?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. Turn up your volume or use headphones to hear the click.
