How to Easily play Major Scale on all Piano keys

Updated

These techniques will show you how to play the major scale on all keys on the Piano.

That is the pattern in which you should learn the major scale. So next will be the fingering technique and this is very important. It is better you learn it the right way. Some of us tend to learn the piano or keyboard with the wrong fingerings and this is obviously going to affect them when they start progressing. I actually learned how to play the Piano with the wrong fingering, I definitely regretted. So it is advisable to learn this the right way.

So we’ve been able to come up with a fingering technique of both the Right Hand Side(RHS) and the Left Hand Side(LHS).  While trying to generating this technique we noticed that some keys had the same fingerings, I mean fingering technique.

NOTE: Your  thumb is noted as 1 in both hands, so your left and right hand consist of 12345

The rule of thumb for any scale

On the piano, the thumb almost never plays a black key in a scale. So in keys with black notes, look at where the black keys group together: the thumb plays the white key just after each group, and fingers 2-3 or 2-3-4 cover the black keys. Once you see that, the fingering for B, F♯, D♭, A♭ and E♭ makes sense instead of being memorised.

Practise each new scale hands separately, two octaves, at a slow metronome tempo, then hands together. Then use the key in a real song from our piano chords.

Frequently asked questions

Why does C major fingering also work for G, D, A and E?

In those keys the black notes fall in places that let the same thumb crossings work in both hands.

Should I learn scales with both hands at once?

Learn each hand separately first. When each is smooth, put them together slowly.

How many octaves should I practise?

Start with one octave, then two once the fingering is automatic. Two octaves trains the thumb crossings properly.
