How to play Gravity: key, chords and progression

Gravity by Paul Weller is centred on C major (no sharps or flats). The song uses 8 chords: C, Cmaj7, D, Dmadd9, Dm, Am, F and G.

Most of the song cycles through Dmadd9 – Dm – Dmadd9 – C (ii – ii – ii – I in C major). In solfa, that is reh – reh – reh – doh. Get these 4 changes smooth and the rest comes quickly.

Good to know: on guitar, Dmadd9 and F need a barre or movable shape. Take the change into them slowly at first; piano and ukulele players have it easier.
