How to play Dive: key, chords and progression

Dive by Luke Combs is written in D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯) and moves through 5 chords: D, Bm, G, A and F#m.

The backbone of the song is D – Bm – G – A (I – vi – IV – V in D major), the classic 1950s “doo-wop” progression. In solfa, that is doh – lah – fah – soh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 2nd fret and play the shapes C, Am, F, G, Em (80% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 60% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
