How to play Before The Sun: key, chords and progression

These are Before The Sun chords by Gregory Alan Isakov on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, and Keyboard.

Before The Sun by Gregory Alan Isakov is built around G major (one sharp: F♯), with 7 chords in all: Em, G, C, Am, Fmaj7, G6 and D/F#.

The progression the song keeps returning to is G – Em – G – C (I – vi – I – IV in G major). In solfa, that is doh – lah – doh – fah. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Beginner-friendly: on guitar almost every chord is an open shape, which makes this a good song to learn early on.
