How to play Merry Christmas: key, chords and progression

These are the chords for Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, and Keyboard

Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran sits in C major (no sharps or flats), and you need 10 chords to play it: C, E7, Am, G, F, Dm7, G7, Cmaj7, Ab and Bb.

The backbone of the song is C – G – Am – G (I – V – vi – V in C major). In solfa, that is doh – soh – lah – soh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Good to know: on guitar, F, Ab and Bb need a barre or movable shape. Take the change into them slowly at first; piano and ukulele players have it easier.
