[Verse]
C
 As much as I
Am7
could, as
           C/Bb
 much as I tried
I just couldn't
 seem to
         Dm
find the light
The trees for
the
Dm/C#
wood, the wars
         Dm7
left and right
  G7
Umbrellas with
the rain in
C
 I turn on the
Am7
news, the news
            C/Bb
 has turned off
All the people
that
             Dm
the world forgot
The blues get the
Dm/C#
blues, but the
view
         Dm7
from the top
       G7
Is the ocean
in a drop

Oh, Daniel,

be the one

for you?

How to play The Karate Kid: key, chords and progression

The Karate Kid by Coldplay is in the key of C major (no sharps or flats). The song uses 12 chords: C, Am7, C/Bb, Dm, Dm/C#, Dm7, G7, G, Am, E7, G/B and C/E.

The backbone of the song is C – Am7 – C/Bb – Dm (I – vi7 – I – ii in C major). In solfa, that is doh – lah – doh – reh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Beginner-friendly: on guitar every chord is an open shape, which makes this a good song to learn early on.
