How to play Heavenly: key, chords and progression

Heavenly by Cigarettes After Sex is built around G major (one sharp: F♯), with 6 chords in all: G, Cmaj7, Gmaj7, D, Am and Em.

The progression the song keeps returning to is Cmaj7 – Gmaj7 – D – Am (IVmaj7 – Imaj7 – V – ii in G major). In solfa, that is fah – doh – soh – reh. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Beginner-friendly: on guitar every chord is an open shape, which makes this a good song to learn early on.
