How to play Midnight Sky: key, chords and progression

Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus is centred on E minor (one sharp: F♯). The song uses 8 chords: Em, Bm, C, Am, Cmaj7, D, G and B.

The progression the song keeps returning to is Em – Bm – C – Am (i – v – VI – iv in E minor). Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: Bm and B are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
