How to play First Light: key, chords and progression

First Light by Lana Del Rey is built around A minor (no sharps or flats), with 10 chords in all: Em, Bb, Bm, F#m, B, Am, G, C, E7 and Emmaj9.

Listen for Bb – Em – Bb – Bm (♭II – v – ♭II – ii in A minor): the song comes back to it again and again. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Good to know: Bb, Bm, F#m and B are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
