How to play I Give Myself Away: key, chords and progression
I Give Myself Away by William McDowell keeps coming home to C major (no sharps or flats). You need 4 chords: C, G, Am and F.
Most of the song cycles through C – G – Am – G (I – V – vi – V in C major). In solfa, that is doh – soh – lah – soh. Get these 4 changes smooth and the rest comes quickly.
Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 5th fret and play the shapes G, D, Em, C (100% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 75% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
