How to play Joy To The World: key, chords and progression

Joy To The World by Victory Worship is centred on D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯). The song uses 12 chords: D, A/D, G, A, Bm, Em, D/A, A/C#, Asus, C, G/B and D13.

The progression the song keeps returning to is D – Em – C – G/B (I – ii – ♭VII – IV in D major). Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: Bm and D13 are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
