How to play Hope: key, chords and progression

Hope by Vampire Weekend is written in C major (no sharps or flats) and moves through 8 chords: Am, G, C, Dm, Em, Bm, Bb and F.

The backbone of the song is Am – G – C – Dm (vi – V – I – ii in C major). In solfa, that is lah – soh – doh – reh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Good to know: on guitar, Bm, Bb and F need a barre or movable shape. Take the change into them slowly at first; piano and ukulele players have it easier.
