[Verse 1]
          B
You can scream like a banshee
                  D G
and still nothing comes
         B
You can buy a hot balloon
                       D G
and watch the sky grow dull
      B
I've said it all before,
           D G E
I am ready for the high
         B
'Cause nothing works worse
                 D
than the weekend fix
            B
I put the money in the slots
                      D G
and then they fell to bits
      B
I've said it all before,
           D G E
I am ready for the high

[Chorus]
                   B
I'm ready for the high life
                   D
A kiss without a fistfight
                     F#m
A bang without the dynamite
                 Em
A place I wanna stay
                   B
I always think in extremes
                      D
I should be thinking moon beams
                          A
I should be pulling you close to me
                   Em
And not explaining why
                    B
I am ready for the high

[Verse 2]
       B
Maybe Generation X
                D G
are the chosen ones
              B
They've got everything they need
                      D G
beneath their aching thumbs
      B
I'll say it all again,
           D G E
I am ready for the high
         B
Because underneath the low,
                D G
there's a lower part
           B
A place I only like to
                    D G
go to when we come apart
      B
I'll say it all again,
           D G E
I am ready for the high

[Chorus]
                   B
I'm ready for the high life
                   D
A kiss without a fistfight
                     F#m
A bang without the dynamite
                 Em
A place I wanna stay
                   B
I always think in extremes
                      D
I should be thinking moon beams
                          A
I should be pulling you close to me
                   Em
And not explaining why
I am ready for the high
                    B
I am ready for the high

How to play Ready for the High: key, chords and progression

These are the chords for Ready for the High by The Wombats on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, and Keyboard

Ready for the High by The Wombats keeps coming home to A major (three sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯). You need 7 chords: A, B, D, G, E, F#m and Em.

Most of the song cycles through B – A – B – D (II – I – II – IV in A major). In solfa, that is reh – doh – reh – fah. Get these 4 changes smooth and the rest comes quickly.

Good to know: B and F#m are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
