[Verse 1]
F#m E Dsus2
We felt a jolt in our lives we felt pain
                        A
in surprise, that's what you
meant by husband and wife.
F#m E
Home didn’t feel like home.
              Dsus2
We found our fate getting stoned,
                     A
just mates together on our own.
F#m E
F#m E Dsus2
Talking about life for hours, what makes
                 A
us tick, what makes us feel powerful.
F#m E Dsus2
We all got voices in our head some better
                         A
left unsaid but we found a way,
leave ego unfed.
F#m E

[Verse 2]
F#m E
There where choices in our lives,
  Dsus2
Explored the great divide,
   A F#m
All we did is run and hide
     E
But Fates a funny thing,
            Dsus2
it turned us upside down,
       A F#m E
We thought is was solid ground

How to play My Friend: key, chords and progression

My Friend by Sam + Sam is built around F♯ minor (three sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯), with 7 chords in all: F#m, E, Dsus2, A, Amaj7sus2, F#m11 and Fm.

Listen for E – Dsus2 – A – F#m (VII – VIsus2 – III – i in F♯ minor): the song comes back to it again and again. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Good to know: F#m, F#m11 and Fm are the tricky part on guitar (barre or movable shapes). Slow the change down until it is clean; on piano and ukulele they are simpler.
