oh i couldn’t quite narrate my passing fright
G    Em        Am          Cmaj7
over losing the fight to write
G                                   Em
so i listened with hyper conscious care
B7                                                    Cmaj7
so as to once more earn the right to go there
G                  Em                                   Am                                   D
but something held me down to the mattress that i sit on
G5                                   F6                 Cmaj7                  Am                  Cmaj7                  Gmaj7/D
moving on to a land of broken tongues where everyone is empty but also lives to fill each other in
G5        F6          Cmaj7       Am      C/G                  Cm/G                  G
knowing that i belong there the time has come to go to tixis

How to play Aoid: key, chords and progression

Aoid by Ratboys is built around G major (one sharp: F♯), with 12 chords in all: G, Em, F/A, Cmaj7, Am, B7, D, G5, F6, Gmaj7/D, C/G and Cm/G.

The backbone of the song is Cmaj7 – G – Em – Am (IVmaj7 – I – vi – ii in G major). In solfa, that is fah – doh – lah – reh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Good to know: on guitar, F/A, F6 and Cm/G need a barre or movable shape. Take the change into them slowly at first; piano and ukulele players have it easier.
