Do you remember drinking in the parking lot by the trail head?

I see ya for a moment, then the morning comes and it’s wasted

We listen to “Only The Good Die Young” and we laugh about its statement
C D7sus2 Am
We walk in the same direction, but we both got lost and you raged in my impatience

[Chorus]
Fmaj7 C
Did you find what you were looking for?
Am
Some escape from your skin
Em
You know that place you were dreaming of
Fmaj7
Where all light comes in
C
I hope you know I grew my hair out long
Am
And your sister’s just fine
Em
I keep burning my bridges down
F
Just to keep you alive

(Woo-ooh-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh)

(Woo-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh)

Do you remember looking from the fire tower at the sunset?

Jack White, prophetic on my speakers, we were going to be friends
C D7sus2 Am
Yeah, I guess I just got busy, only saw you every other weekend
C D7sus2 Am
Lord, I just moved to this city, hoping noise drowns out the regret

[Chorus]
F C
But did you find what you were looking for?
Am
Some escape from your skin
Em
You know that place you were dreaming of
F
Where all light comes in
C
I hope you know I grew my hair out long
Am
And your sister’s just fine
Em
I keep burning my bridges down
F
Just to keep you alive

(Woo-ooh-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh) Just to keep you alive

(Woo-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh)

(Woo-ooh)

[Bridge]

They tell me grief is just love letting go
Am G C F
They say it like milk has been spilled on the floor

They say they don’t know who I am anymore
Am G C Fmaj7
Well I just have never shown anger before

[Chorus]
C
Still haven’t found what I’m looking for
Am
Some escape from my sin
Em
You know that place you been dreaming of
F
Where all light comes in
C
And I’ll keep growing my hair out long
Am
Just to cover my eyes
Em
And I’ll keep playing that goddamn song

If it keeps you alive

(Woo-ooh-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh) If it keeps you alive

(Woo-ooh woo-ooh-ooh-ooh)

(Woo-ooh) I just want to keep you alive

How to play Carlos Song: key, chords and progression

Carlos Song by Noah Kahan is centred on A minor (no sharps or flats). The song uses 7 chords: C, D7sus2, Am, Fmaj7, Em, F and G.

The progression the song keeps returning to is C – D7sus2 – Am – C (III – IV – i – III in A minor). Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: D7sus2 and F are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
