This is the chords of First by mxmtoon on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar and Keyboard.

[Verse 1]
                  Em D
I think we saw it comin'
                 Gmaj7 G7
It wasn't hard to see
                   Em D
The time we had together
               Gmaj7 G7
Was over, we agree
                Em D
But I have no regrets

Just strange to sit and
 Gmaj7 G7
 think
You spend your time with
 Em
 someone else
And then they're gone
within a blink

[Chorus]
                    Em
It's odd that I can write
         D
 these songs
              Gmaj7 G7
Never knowin' right from wrong
                   Em
But when I finally found
                    D
That my heart could pound
                      Gmaj7
The chapter seemed to end
                       Em
I can't believe you've come
        D
 and gone
                   Gmaj7
And you think your future's
   G7
 long
                      Em
But there was just no way
                 D
Nothing wе could say
The chapter has to end

[Verse 2]
                  Em D
I still know I am thankful
                      G
For еverything you've done
                   Em D
Although it wasn't easy
               G
I'm proud we gave it a run
                  Em D
The first of many lessons
                  G
That I will undergo
                    Em
Our journeys will diverge
      D
 here
And we'll learn from what
     G
 we know

How to play First: key, chords and progression

First by mxmtoon is centred on D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯). The song uses 5 chords: Em, D, Gmaj7, G7 and G.

The progression the song keeps returning to is Em – D – Gmaj7 – G7 (ii – I – IVmaj7 – IV7 in D major). In solfa, that is reh – doh – fah – fah. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Beginner-friendly: every chord is an open chord on guitar, so you can play it without a capo or barre chords.
