How to play Egal: key, chords and progression

Egal by Michael Wendler is built around G major (one sharp: F♯), with 7 chords in all: G, Em7, Bm, D, D/F#, Cadd9 and A.

The backbone of the song is G – D/F# – Em7 – Cadd9 (I – V – vi7 – IVadd9 in G major), the “four-chord” progression behind countless pop, rock and worship songs. In solfa, that is doh – soh – lah – fah. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Beginner-friendly: almost every chord here is an open shape on guitar: no capo, no barre chords needed.
