How to play Gun Free Zone: key, chords and progression

Gun Free Zone by Mat Best sits in A major (three sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯), and you need 3 chords to play it: A, D and E.

Listen for A – D – E – A (I – IV – V – I in A major), the I–IV–V–I, the backbone of gospel, blues and folk: the song comes back to it again and again. In solfa, that is doh – fah – soh – doh. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Beginner-friendly: every chord here is an open shape on guitar: no capo, no barre chords needed.
