How to play Ay: key, chords and progression

Ay by Machine Gun Kelly is centred on D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯). The song uses 3 chords: D, G and Bm.

The progression the song keeps returning to is D – G – Bm – G (I – IV – vi – IV in D major). In solfa, that is doh – fah – lah – fah. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 7th fret and play the shapes G, C, Em (100% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 67% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
