How to play Hes Alive: key, chords and progression

Hes Alive by Lynyrd Skynyrd is built around D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯), with 7 chords in all: E, G, D, A, C, F and Bb.

The progression the song keeps returning to is G – D – A – G (IV – I – V – IV in D major). In solfa, that is fah – doh – soh – fah. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: F and Bb are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
