How to play Not Knowing You: key, chords and progression

Not Knowing You by Li3a is centred on E major (four sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯, D♯). The song uses 3 chords: E, C#m and G#m.

The progression the song keeps returning to is E – C#m – G#m – E (I – vi – iii – I in E major). In solfa, that is doh – lah – mi – doh. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 4th fret and play the shapes C, Am, Em (100% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 33% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
