[Intro]
A#m G Em C
A#m G C

[Verse 1]
Em
 This ain't what your mother
   F#m E/G# G
told you, it's night and day
Em
  If you're waitin' for a
                  F#m
sign to come and hold me
Well, you might as well spend
      E/G# G
all your night guessin' (Oh)
Em
  If this ain't what your
         F#m
mother told you, forget
            E/G# G
what she said (Oh-ooh)
Em
If you want this to be real,
                   F#m
then show me you want me
                       E/G#
Don't play it safe with me
     G
(Alright)

[Pre-Chorus]
Em F#m
 Won't work if I'm numb
                E/G#
Won't stop if I love
                   G
Who hurts if you don't?
                       Em
Don't fall from these heights
                  F#m
Won't stop if you won't
                   E/G#
Won't learn if you don't
                   G
Who else could get me
                     Em
To fall from these heights?

[Chorus]
               A
I don't know where you are,
                                 Em
but I don't wanna Go to sleep, babe
            A
I know you care, but please,
                            Em
don't take it easy on me, babe

Ooh-ooh, hey
            A#m
I could be fallin', flyin',
      A
I wouldn't know the
         Em A#m A
difference

[Verse 2]
Em F#m
 There's no way that I'll
say that I did wrong
       E/G#
But it won't hurt, and now
                  G
I know that you could be mine
                    Em
Well, it's taken a while
to know what's
        F#m
Between love and lust
No matter what, you know
   E/G#
 I love the words
Do what you want, I can't
                 G
even say what's in
my head (Bm-mm)

[Pre-Chorus]
Em
 Won't work if I'm numb
F#m
  Won't stop if I love
E/G#
  Who else could get me
G Em
 To fall from these heights?

How to play Falling or flying: key, chords and progression

These are Falling or flying chords by on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, and Keyboard.

Falling or flying by Jorja Smith is in the key of D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯). The song uses 7 chords: A#m, G, Em, C, F#m, E/G# and A.

Listen for Em – F#m – E/G# – G (ii – iii – II – IV in D major): the song comes back to it again and again. In solfa, that is reh – mi – reh – fah. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Good to know: A#m and F#m are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
