How to play Wilderness Road: key, chords and progression

Wilderness Road by Gino Vannelli sits in C major (no sharps or flats), and you need 35 chords to play it: C6, G7, C9, Dm7, Eb7-9, C7/E, F, F6, E/F, Ab7, C#dim and B7/F# and 23 more.

Listen for F – F6 – E/F – F6 (IV – IV6 – III – IV6 in C major): the song comes back to it again and again. In solfa, that is fah – fah – mi – fah. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Good to know: C9, Eb7-9, F, F6 and Ab7 are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
