How to play Captains Dance With The Devil: key, chords and progression

Captains Dance With The Devil by Cody Simpson is centred on C major (no sharps or flats). The song uses 8 chords: C, Cmaj9, Fmaj9, Bb, F, Am, G and E.

The progression the song keeps returning to is C – Cmaj9 – Fmaj9 – C (I – I – IV – I in C major). In solfa, that is doh – doh – fah – doh. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: Cmaj9, Fmaj9, Bb and F are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
