How to play Dear Diary: key, chords and progression

Dear Diary by Britney Spears keeps coming home to D major (two sharps: F♯, C♯). You need 15 chords: D, A/D, G/D, G/A, Bm7, G, Em7, A, C, B7, Bm and E7 and 3 more.

Listen for G – D – Em7 – A (IV – I – ii7 – V in D major): the song comes back to it again and again. In solfa, that is fah – doh – reh – soh. Once these 4 changes are comfortable, most of the song is done.

Good to know: on guitar, Bm7, Bm and Gm need a barre or movable shape. Take the change into them slowly at first; piano and ukulele players have it easier.
