How to play Soul Searching: key, chords and progression

Soul Searching by Bazzi is built around F♯ minor (three sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯), with 3 chords in all: D, F#m and E.

The progression the song keeps returning to is D – F#m – E – D (VI – i – VII – VI in F♯ minor). Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 2nd fret and play the shapes C, Em, D (100% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 67% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
