[Verse 1]
G Cadd9 G
Look at me, so damaged and destroyed
                  Cadd9
with this world's plans and
    G Em7
its ploys to take me out
G Cadd9 G
I'm on a highway directly to the moon
        Cadd9 G
with no plans of stopping soon
          Em7
I'm leaving town

[Pre-Chorus]
G
Them Christians are talking
   Cadd9 G
so often of coffins
   Cadd9 G Em7
no heavens could top this moment now

[Verse 2]
   G
My foot out the window,
   Cadd9 G
my flask halfway full
  Cadd9 G Em7
I may have to pull over soon
  G
I can't afford a motel but the
Cadd9 G
floorboards will work well
         Cadd9
and I'll sleep there
     G Em7
'til tomorrow afternoon
    G
And I'll get on the road again
    Cadd9 G
had another chance at fitting in
    Cadd9 G
but fitting in to kids
           Em7
like me is dying
      G
And I know when I'm with you
      Cadd9 G
after one shot or 22
      Cadd9 G Em7
and a cigarette I feel like I'm flying

[Chorus]
     G
Them Christians are talking
   Cadd9 G
so often of coffins
   Cadd9 G Em7
no heavens could top this moment now
     G
I've searched and I've found
       Cadd9 G
to get to that ninth cloud
         Cadd9 G
you must trek through some dark
             Em7 Em7
and troubled grounds
   G Cadd9 G
So may we all, once or twice,
     Cadd9 G D
once in this life just look around
G
Usually I'm a wreck but the
Cadd9 G
hard times were just a step
   Cadd9 G
to get to where I am on
           Em7 Em7
this ninth cloud

G Cadd9 G Cadd9 G Em7

[Verse 2]
      G
We're singing feeling good
      Cadd9 G
again just past 3:04am
        Cadd9 G
and I'm talking like the sun
           Em7
will never rise
        G
But the sun will crest the trees
               Cadd9 G
and bring this devil to his knees
      Cadd9 G
as it outlines the silver
         Em7 Em7
in these skies

How to play Ninth Cloud: key, chords and progression

These are the chords for Ninth Cloud by Zach Bryan on Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, and Keyboard

Ninth Cloud by Zach Bryan keeps coming home to G major (one sharp: F♯). You need 4 chords: G, Cadd9, Em7 and D.

The backbone of the song is G – Cadd9 – G – Em7 (I – IVadd9 – I – vi7 in G major). In solfa, that is doh – fah – doh – lah. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Beginner-friendly: on guitar every chord is an open shape, which makes this a good song to learn early on.
