How to play I Am From Austria: key, chords and progression

I Am From Austria by Rainhard Fendrich sits in G major (one sharp: F♯), and you need 9 chords to play it: G, D, Em, Bm, C, Am, D4, C9 and D7.

The backbone of the song is G – C – D – G (I – IV – V – I in G major), the I–IV–V–I, the backbone of gospel, blues and folk. In solfa, that is doh – fah – soh – doh. Practise these 4 changes until they feel natural and you can play most of it.

Good to know: Bm and C9 are the tricky part on guitar (barre or movable shapes). Slow the change down until it is clean; on piano and ukulele they are simpler.
