How to play Wish U Were Here: key, chords and progression
Wish U Were Here by Pale Waves is centred on C major (no sharps or flats). The song uses 5 chords: C, C/B, F, Am and G.
The progression the song keeps returning to is C – Am – F – G (I – vi – IV – V in C major), the classic 1950s “doo-wop” progression. In solfa, that is doh – lah – fah – soh. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.
Easier on guitar: put a capo on the 5th fret and play the shapes G, C, Em, D (100% of the chords become easy open shapes, against 75% without a capo). It sounds exactly the same.
