Follow me home if you dare to

I wouldn’t know where to lead you

Should I take chances when no one took chances on me?

With no beauty in my memory

[Chorus]
E F#m E F#m
All that I wanted was to be wanted
A B A Emaj
Too young to wander London streets alone and haunted

Born into nothing
E F#m E F#m
Atleast you have something, something to cling to
A B A Emaj
Visions of dazzling rooms I’ll never get let into
A B C#m
And the memories were lost long ago
A B Emaj
But atleast you have beautiful ghosts

[Verse 2]
Em C Bm7 Em
Perilous night, their voices calling
Em C Bm7 Em
A flicker of light before the dawning
Em C D G Bm7
Out here, the wild ones are taming the fea within me
Bm7
Scared to call them my friends and be broken again
F#m
Is this hope just a mystical dream?

[Bridge]
D A
And so maybe my home isn’t what I had known
Emaj
What I thought it would be
D A
But I feel so alive with these phantoms of night
C#m A B
And I know that this life isn’t safe but it’s wild and free

[Chorus]
E F#m E F#m
All that I wanted was to be wanted
A B A Emaj
Too young to wander London streets alone and haunted
E B
Born into nothing
E F#m E F#m
With them I have something, something to cling to

I never knew I’d love this world they let me into
A B C#m
And the memories were lost long ago
A B Emaj
Do I’ll dance with these beautiful ghosts
A B C#m
And the memories were lost long ago
A B Emaj
Do I’ll dance with these beautiful ghosts!

How to play Beautiful Ghosts: key, chords and progression

Beautiful Ghosts by Cats is centred on A major (three sharps: F♯, C♯, G♯). The song uses 11 chords: Em, C, Bm7, D, G, F#m, E, A, B, Emaj and C#m.

The progression the song keeps returning to is F#m – E – F#m – A (vi – V – vi – I in A major). In solfa, that is lah – soh – lah – doh. Learn these 4 changes first and most of the song falls into place.

Good to know: Bm7, F#m, B and C#m are played as barre or movable shapes on guitar. Practise the change into them slowly; on piano and ukulele the same chords are easier.
